Biography of Ian Brady

Ian Brady, a British murderer, together with his accomplice, Myra Hindley, were known as the "Moors Murderers" for their abduction and killing of children. A trusted individual of Ian Brady, Jackie Powell, claimed to have received a letter from him revealing the location of Keith's body. The police arrested Powell and searched her house in Wales for ten hours, attempting to find the sealed envelope. The letter was meant to be delivered to Winnie Johnson, Keith Bennett's mother, in the event of Brady's death. Powell stated that the letter possibly contained information about the whereabouts of Keith's remains, which have remained undiscovered since his murder in 1964. However, on Friday, August 17, it was reported that Powell had returned the envelope to the serial killer sometime between July 30 and her arrest on August 16. The search of Brady's cell at Ashworth Psychiatric Hospital also yielded no success.

Investigation and Uncertainty

Currently, the police are examining the documents found at Powell's home, but there are concerns that the letter, if it exists at all, may be another mockery by Brady towards the victims' families. Martin Bottomley, the head of the Greater Manchester Police investigation committee, stated that Ian Brady had not informed the police about the location of Keith's body. The police's current focus is just a theory, as they do not know whether the letter truly exists or if it is merely a taunt. Their duty, however, remains to ascertain the truth for Keith's family. Despite battling colon cancer, Winnie Johnson strives to stay informed about the investigation concerning her deceased son.

The Shadow of the Moors Murderers

As Mr. Bottomley states, the "Moors Murderers" cast a long and dark shadow over the history of Greater Manchester. In 2009, the police concluded that there was no credible information to help identify new areas for the search of Keith's body. Nevertheless, the police refuse to give up and will continue to develop new theories, relying on scientific advancements and obtained information.

Arrest of Jackie Powell

Jackie Powell, a trusted individual of the mentally ill Brady, was arrested after a ten-hour search of her home. Neighbors witnessed five police cars arriving at her house on Thursday and apprehending her on the doorstep. Officers carried out documents and letters from her house, while a detective examined them outside on the roof of a car belonging to Powell.

The Refusal to Disclose Keith's Whereabouts

Brady, currently imprisoned for the abduction and murder of five children and teenagers that he committed around fifty years ago, refuses to disclose the location of Keith's remains. Keith's mother has repeatedly pleaded with Brady to reveal the whereabouts of the body. In a letter sent to him last December, she wrote, "If you have any heart left, tell me where Keith is, and it will put an end to my forty-seven years of suffering. I would like to find and bury him before they do it to me." She has never received a response and expressed her despair, saying, "He is simply toying with us. I cannot bear it."
