Early Life and Education
Ibrahim Hajibaba oglu Guliyev was born on May 23, 1959, in Baku, Azerbaijan. His family belonged to the noble Guliyevs-Badalbeylis, and his grandmother, Ragima khanum Badalbeyli, was a descendant of Prince Bahman Mirza Qajar.
In 1976, Guliyev graduated from the Bulbul Special Music School and enrolled in the Uzeyir Hajibeyov Azerbaijan State Conservatory in the piano faculty.
Music Career
From 1985 to 1995, Guliyev served as deputy headmaster of Children's Music School No. 13. In 1995, he became the executive director of the Azerbaijan Culture Friends Foundation, now known as the Azerbaijan Culture Foundation, headed by First Lady Mehriban Aliyeva. He held this position until 2010.
Concurrently, Guliyev was the deputy chairman of the Union of Musical Figures of Azerbaijan under Farhad Badalbeyli. From 1996, he participated in publishing the magazine "Caspian."
From 1998 to 2003, Guliyev was the production director of the cultural-historical magazine "Azerbaijan Irs," founded by Mehriban Aliyeva and edited by Arif Pashayev.
In 2003, Guliyev joined the faculty of the Baku Musical Academy as a senior lecturer in the department of concertmasters. He was also a member of the jury for the television competition "Mugam," organized by the Azerbaijan Culture Foundation and supported by the Heydar Aliyev Foundation in 2005 and 2007.
Academic Achievements
In 2009, Guliyev was appointed director of the International Mugham Center. In 2002, he defended his dissertation on "Afrasiyab Badalbeyli's Creativity in the Context of 20th Century Azerbaijani Musical Art," earning a PhD in Musicology.
In 2008, Guliyev wrote and published the books "Maestro" and "The Maestro Spoke Thus" about the life and work of Azerbaijani composer and conductor Afrasiyab Badalbeyli. He also authored articles on Muslim Magomayev, Rashid Beybutov, and other notable musicians.
Personal Life and Recognition
Guliyev's wife is Gulnara Guliyeva, and they have two children, Mastura (born 1986) and Fidan (born 1988). On September 17, 2008, President Ilham Aliyev conferred upon Guliyev the title of "Honored Artist of the Republic of Azerbaijan."
