Early Life and Education
Ignatius Kłopotowski was born in Poland and graduated from gymnasium in Siedlce. In 1883, he entered the Higher Theological Seminary in Lublin. After four years, he was transferred to the seminary in St. Petersburg, Russia, where he earned a Master's degree in theology.
Priestly Ordination and Ministry
On July 5, 1891, Kłopotowski was ordained a priest in Lublin by Bishop Franciszek Jaczewski. He served as vicar in the parish of St. Paul's Conversion in Lublin and as a chaplain in a hospital. For the next 14 years, he taught at the Lublin seminary, served as vicar in the Lublin Cathedral, and became rector of the Church of St. Stanislaus.
Social Activism and Publications
Kłopotowski was deeply involved in social work. He founded a craft school, a shelter for women, the elderly, and children. He also published religious and patriotic periodicals such as "Polish Catholic," "Posew," and "Voice of the Priest."
Founding of the Sisters of Our Lady of Loreto
In 1913, Kłopotowski became vicar of the parish of St. Anne. In 1919, he became pastor of the parish of Our Lady of Loreto at St. Florian's Church in Warsaw. On July 31, 1920, he founded the female religious congregation "Sisters of Our Lady of Loreto," dedicated to spreading the Gospel through the written word.
Later Life and Death
In 1928, Kłopotowski founded Loreto, a colony for poor children. He died on September 7, 1931, and was buried in the cemetery of the colony he had established. In 2000, his remains were transferred to the chapel of the Sisters of Our Lady of Loreto.
Canonization and Legacy
The process of Kłopotowski's beatification began in 1988. In 2004, he was declared to have possessed heroic virtues. On June 19, 2005, he was beatified. His feast day is celebrated on September 7th.
