Biography of Igor Bilozir
Early Life and EducationIgor Bilozir, a Ukrainian composer and performer, was born on March 24, 1955, in Radekhiv, Lviv Oblast. He attended Radekhiv Secondary School No. 1 and began performing his first musical compositions with the school's vocal-instrumental ensemble. In 1969, he made his first professional recording on Lviv Radio's program "Wandering Meridian." Bilozir later moved to Lviv, where he resided at 4 Fredra Street. Today, there is a memorial plaque on the house, and a museum dedicated to the composer has been established in the apartment. He studied at the Lviv Music and Pedagogical School and the Lviv Conservatory, as well as completed internships in the United States and Canada.
Music Career
Since 1977, Bilozir served as the leader of the VIA "Rhythms of the Carpathians" at the Lviv Bus Factory. In 1979, he became the artistic director and soloist of the VIA "Vatra" at the Lviv Regional Philharmonic, where he continues to perform most of his songs to this day. In addition to writing songs for himself, Bilozir also composed songs for his wife, vocalist Oksana Bilozir.
Personal Life
Igor Bilozir was married to Oksana Vladimirovna Bilozir, a Ukrainian cultural and political figure. They had a son named Andriy Igorovych Bilozir.
Tragic End
On May 8, 2000, Bilozir was attacked in the "Imperial Coffee" cafe on Shevchenko Avenue in Lviv for interrupting a group of visitors who were singing and listening to a different genre of music. As a result of the injuries sustained, he passed away on May 28, 2000, in the hospital. He was laid to rest at the Lychakiv Cemetery in Lviv. Posthumously, on August 18, 2009, Bilozir was awarded the Order of Merit, 1st Class.
