Early Life and Education
An esteemed Soviet diplomat, the subject of this biography was a member of the Communist Party of the Soviet Union (RKP(b)). After graduating from Moscow State University in 1944, he embarked on a distinguished diplomatic career.
Diplomatic Service in Europe
Assistant and Embassy OfficerFrom 1945 to 1950, he served as an officer in the Soviet diplomatic mission in Finland. He subsequently held positions as an employee in the central apparatus of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MID) from 1950 to 1955.
Embassy Counselor and Ambassador
In 1955, he was deployed to the Soviet embassy in Switzerland, where he remained until 1959. He then served as Counselor at the Soviet embassy in France from 1959 to 1961.
Deputy Director and Envoy
Upon his return to the Soviet Union, he became Deputy Director of the MID's Press Department from 1961 to 1963. Subsequently, from 1963 to 1967, he held the prestigious post of Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to Luxembourg.
Senior Diplomatic Roles
From 1967 to 1973, he worked in the central apparatus of the MID. In 1973, he was appointed Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to Greece, a role he discharged until 1976.
Director and General Secretary
Returning to Moscow once more, he headed the MID's Department for Cultural Relations with Foreign Countries from 1976 to 1977. He reached the pinnacle of his diplomatic career upon being appointed General Secretary of the MID in 1977, concurrently serving as a member of the MID's Collegium.
Legacy
The esteemed diplomat passed away in Moscow and was laid to rest in the prestigious Novodevichy Cemetery. His contributions to Soviet diplomacy and international relations are remembered and celebrated.
