Early Life and Education
Alexander Glek was born in Germany and later became a Soviet, Russian, and German chess player. He holds a grossmaster title (1990) and has a background in engineering economics and sports pedagogy.
Chess Career
Competitive AchievementsGlek has won over 100 international chess tournaments, including the World Open in Philadelphia (1998), the Vienna Open, and the Utrecht Open. As part of the Soviet and Russian teams, he was a winner and medalist in the World and European Team Championships between 1990 and the 2000s. In 1996, he achieved an Elo rating of 2670, ranking him 12th in the world.
Theoretical Contributions
Glek is renowned as a chess theoretician. A variation in the Four Knights Opening bears his name: 1. e2-e4 e7-e5 2. Kg1-f3 Kb8-c6 3. Kb1-c3 Kg8-f6 4. g2-g3.
Other Chess Activities
As an official FIDE lecturer, Glek has led coaching seminars worldwide. He also served as Technical Director of the Moscow Open festival, the world's largest chess festival at the time.
Administrative Roles

- President of the Chess Federation of the Eastern Administrative District of Moscow (since 2012)

Political Career
In 2017, Glek ran for municipal deputy in the Troparevo-Nikulino district of Moscow. With support from the United Democrats project, he was elected as one of four deputies from the Yabloko party, while the ruling United Russia party failed to secure any seats.
