Goran Popov

Early Career

Goran Popov is a Macedonian footballer who primarily played as a defender. He represented both his country and several renowned clubs throughout his career.

Club Career

Popov's club career began in Macedonia with FK Sileks. In June 2001, he made a significant move to Ukrainian club Shakhtar Donetsk, making his debut on July 7, 2001, against FC Zakarpattia. After five seasons with Shakhtar, he joined fellow Ukrainian club FC Metalurh Donetsk.

Popov ventured outside Ukraine in 2006, joining Israeli club Hapoel Petah Tikva for a short stint. He returned to Europe in January 2007 when he was signed by Belgian club Cercle Brugge to replace Djordje Svetlicic, who had transferred to KAA Gent.

International Career

Popov earned 18 caps for the Macedonian national team, scoring one goal.

UEFA Champions League Involvement

In the 2001/2002 UEFA Champions League, Popov played for Shakhtar Donetsk in the match against Borussia Dortmund on August 22, 2001, which Dortmund won 3-1.
