Biography of Igor Larionov

Igor Larionov was a Soviet and Russian ice hockey player, born on December 3, 1960. He was a renowned forward and earned the title of Honored Master of Sports of the USSR.

Early Life and Career

Larionov began his hockey career in 1977, playing for "Khimik" in Voskresensk. During his time with the team from 1977 to 1981, he played 123 games, scoring 39 goals and making 34 assists. He achieved the title of World Champion in the youth division in both 1979 and 1980.

In 1981, Larionov joined the CSKA Moscow team, where he played until 1989. During his time with CSKA, he played 334 games, scoring 165 goals and making 196 assists. He won the Soviet Championship from 1982 to 1989. Larionov was also an integral part of the CSKA team that won the Soviet Cup in 1988. In 1988, he was recognized as the best hockey player in the USSR.

International Success

Larionov's international success was also remarkable. He was a five-time World Champion, winning in 1982, 1983, 1986, and 1989. He also won two Olympic gold medals in 1984 and 1988. During his Winter Olympic Games appearances, Larionov played 71 games and scored 30 goals.

He also represented the USSR in the Canada Cup in 1981 and 1984, playing a total of 21 games and scoring 6 goals. In 1996, Larionov participated in the World Cup of Hockey.

NHL and Later Career

In 1989, Larionov made his move to the NHL, joining the Vancouver Canucks. He played for the Canucks from 1989 to 1992. After his time with the Canucks, he played for the Lugano team in Switzerland from 1992 to 1993, the San Jose Sharks from 1993 to 1995, and the Detroit Red Wings from 1995 to 2000.

Larionov returned to the Florida Panthers for the 2000/2001 season but ultimately rejoined the Detroit Red Wings in the same season.

In 1997 and 1998, Larionov won the Stanley Cup with the Detroit Red Wings. He also participated in the NHL All-Star Game in 1998.

In 2004, Larionov played his final season with the New Jersey Devils. Throughout his career, Larionov was known for his exceptional skill, intelligence, and playmaking abilities.

Life After Hockey

After retiring from professional hockey, Larionov ventured into agent work, representing players such as Andrei Loktionov, Tyler Seguin, Nail Yakupov, Alex Galchenyuk, Artem Sergeev, and Ilya Samsonov. He also became a commentator for hockey broadcasts on the First Channel during the 2018 Winter Olympics in Pyeongchang.

Larionov is also a wine collector and winemaker. He has a chain of restaurants called Larionov Grill & Bar in Moscow. He currently resides in the United States.

Personal Life

Larionov is married to figure skater Elena Batanova, and they have two daughters, Alena and Diana, and a son named Igor, who also plays hockey for the SKA-Neva team in the Higher Hockey League.
