Life and Early Years

Igor Zhivagin, a prominent Ukrainian poet and writer, was born on June 24, 1950, in Verkhoturie, Russia. His formative years were spent in Ordzhonikidze (now Vladikavkaz) in the North Caucasus. Zhivagin completed his military service in the German Democratic Republic from 1969 to 1971.

Academic and Professional Pursuits

In 1973, Zhivagin graduated from the philological faculty of Zhytomyr Pedagogical Institute (now Zhytomyr Ivan Franko State University). He pursued diverse professional paths, including working in industry, teaching, and leading editorial and publishing initiatives. Zhivagin was also a skilled chess player, achieving the rank of Master of Sports.

Literary Career

Zhivagin began writing poetry during his school years. His work explores themes of the picturesque Polesie region, nature, and the lives of its inhabitants. He also wrote about veterans of the Great Patriotic War and the Afghan War, as well as the aftermath of the Chornobyl disaster. Zhivagin's deep affection for Zhytomyr, where he spent the latter part of his life, is evident in his words: "I adore morning Zhytomyr; I will give it the warmth of my soul."

Poetic Styles and Recognition

Zhivagin's literary output can be broadly categorized into two stages: as a poet of love and as a poet of social commentary. He published several collections of his poetry, including "Autumn Kiss" (1993), "In the Name of Love" (1994), and "Touching" (2010). Zhivagin's work received critical acclaim and he was admitted to the Zhytomyr regional organization of the National Union of Writers of Ukraine in 1995.
