Iivo Niskanen: Olympic Champion and Finnish Sportsman of the Year

Olympic Triumph

Iivo Niskanen is a Finnish cross-country skier who achieved his greatest triumph at the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi, where he won the gold medal in the team sprint classic style alongside Sami Jauhojärvi. The victory was celebrated by Niskanen carrying the Finnish flag at the closing ceremony.

World Championship Success

Niskanen's success continued at the 2017 FIS Nordic World Ski Championships in Lahti. He earned a bronze medal in the team sprint and a gold medal in the 15 km individual classic race, clocking in with an impressive time of 36:44.0.

Sportsman of the Year

Niskanen's achievements were recognized in Finland. In 2015, he and Sami Jauhojärvi were named Sportsmen of the Year at the annual Suomen Urheilugaala event in Helsinki. In 2018, he was once again named Sportsman of the Year for his gold medal performance in the 15 km individual race and bronze medal in the team sprint at the 2017 World Championships.
