Biography of Ike Ibeabuchi

Ike Ibeabuchi is an American professional boxer who competed in the heavyweight division. He made his debut in 1994 and despite being of Nigerian descent, he fought all of his matches in the United States.

The Battle of the Undefeateds

In 1998, Ike Ibeabuchi faced off against David Tua in a highly anticipated match between two undefeated knockout artists. Unlike most of Tua's opponents, Ibeabuchi did not shy away from the fight. It was a fierce and intense bout with a flurry of punches, and the unanimous decision from all three judges went in favor of Ibeabuchi. However, unofficial HBO judge Harold Lederman believed that Tua should have won.

A Thrilling Encounter

In 1999, Ike Ibeabuchi took on the undefeated technician Chris Byrd. The fight started off evenly, with Byrd using his speed and Ibeabuchi trying to catch up. In the fifth round, Ibeabuchi caught Byrd with a powerful left uppercut, followed by a right cross, resulting in a heavy knockdown. Byrd managed to get back up, but with less than a minute left in the round, Ibeabuchi launched a furious attack. Byrd slipped, and the referee mistakenly counted it as a second knockdown. Ibeabuchi continued to unleash a barrage of punches, although most were either blocked or missed. However, just one second before the end of the round, the referee made the decision to stop the fight.

A Controversial Turn

Later on, Ike Ibeabuchi was accused of rape and subsequently convicted, which brought an unfortunate end to his boxing career.
