Early Life and Influences
Imanbek Zhekenov, a renowned Kazakh DJ and producer, was born on October 21, 2000, in the small town of Aksu, Kazakhstan. Growing up in a peaceful and secluded environment, Imanbek developed a passion for music at a young age. Inspired by his father, he began playing guitar at the age of eight. His mother, an event organizer, played a supportive role in his musical journey, instilling in him a sense of pride and encouragement.
Education and Railroad Career
After graduating from local school No. 1, Imanbek enrolled in the Transport and Communications College, specializing in "Transportation Organization." His choice of education reflected his fascination with automobiles. During his studies, he took on a job as a signalman on the railroad. Despite the young age and demanding nature of the work, Imanbek remained committed, earning a stable income while finding solace in the sunsets that reflected on the glistening train cars. His colleagues held him in high regard, and they were overjoyed to hear of his subsequent success.
Music: A Passion and a Path
In 2017, Imanbek embarked on his musical journey by creating remixes of popular songs using the FL Studio software. Influenced by genres such as deep house, tropical house, future bass, and hip-hop, he began experimenting with ways to enhance tracks by adding beats, adjusting tempos, and manipulating vocals. Initially, his creations were shared among friends on social media, with little expectation of success. However, in 2019, Imanbek's rhythmic interpretation of Saint Jhn's "Roses" went viral on VKontakte.
Breakthrough and Recognition
The success of "Roses (Imanbek Remix)" caught the attention of record labels, leading to a contract with Effective Records. The official music video, released in March 2020, garnered over 100 million views, surpassing the original version's popularity. Imanbek's talent earned him collaborations with global artists, including Tory Lanez, Don Diablo, Vize, and 24kgoldn. Despite not yet releasing a full-length album, he continues to compose music inspired by the "Roses" sound, aiming to establish a distinct sonic identity.
Personal Life
Imanbek values his freedom and believes he is too young for serious relationships. Moreover, his success has motivated him to focus on his career. He maintains a close connection with fans through Instagram, where he shares updates, personal anecdotes, and highlights his musical achievements.
Grammy Nomination and Future Aspirations
In 2020, Imanbek was stunned to receive a Grammy nomination for his remix of "Roses." Despite his initial disbelief, he remains optimistic about his chances of winning. Currently, he is immersed in his music, balancing remix requests with live performances and aspiring to expand his brand into new territories. While acknowledging the role of luck in his success, Imanbek is determined to continue pursuing his passion and creating memorable music that connects with audiences worldwide.
