Early Life and Education

Indya Moore was born in the Bronx, New York City, to a Puerto Rican mother and a Caribbean father. At the age of 14, they left home due to their parents' transphobia and subsequently lived in several foster homes. Indya dropped out of high school in the tenth grade due to bullying but eventually earned their diploma.

Modeling and Acting Debut

At the age of 15, Indya began working as a model. While working as an extra on the television series "The Get Down," they met dancer Jose Gutierez Xtravaganza, who encouraged them to pursue an acting career and set up an audition for the independent film "Saturday Church."

Breakthrough Role in "Pose"

"Saturday Church" premiered at the Tribeca Film Festival in April 2017 and was released theatrically on January 12, 2018, to mostly positive reviews. In 2018, Indya began starring in the television series "Pose." Their performance as Angel Evangelista earned them widespread acclaim and a Golden Globe Award nomination.
