Inga Ovchinnikova: Wife of a Legendary Goalkeeper
Inga Ovchinnikova, the wife of Sergei Ovchinnikov, the renowned goalkeeper of Lokomotiv Moscow and the Russian national football team, shared her insights on the challenges and rewards of being a footballer's spouse.
Life of a "Decembrist's Wife"
"I feel like a Decembrist's wife," Inga quipped, referring to the wives of exiled Russian revolutionaries. "We rarely see each other, and when we do, it's like a grand celebration."
Overcoming Jealousy
"Initially, I was jealous," Inga admits. "Sergei is surrounded by beautiful women who adore him. But over time, I realized that he is completely dedicated to me."
Second-Time Charm
Inga and Sergei met twice. Their first encounter was in Riga, where Inga was born and trained as a swimmer. Five years later, they reunited in Moscow and fell deeply in love.
Sergei and His Stepson
Sergei's bond with Inga's son, Zhenya, is strong. "They adore each other," Inga says. "Zhenya is in America now, studying English and Spanish, but he misses us terribly and stays connected through the internet."
Living with "The Boss"
Sergei's teammates have nicknamed him "The Boss" due to his assertive leadership style. "I don't see him as 'The Boss,'" Inga says. "He's my husband, my soulmate."
Post-Game Analysis
"When Lokomotiv loses, we're all devastated," Inga reveals. "Sergei and I stay up until 4 AM analyzing the game. He uses matchsticks on the table to explain his strategies and the referees' decisions."
Roles in the Household
"Sergei is the man of the house, the breadwinner," Inga says. "I'm the homemaker, and I find fulfillment in supporting his career. It's a demanding job, but I'm grateful for his appreciation."
Surprise Gifts and Grand Gestures
"Sergei is incredibly generous and romantic," Inga exclaims. "Two days ago, he surprised me with flowers. He recently gave me a computer and a beautiful Audi."
Personal Hobbies and Projects
"I barely have any time for myself," Inga admits. "I occasionally do interior design projects for friends and plan our family's annual Christmas carnival in Riga."
Dream House in Bakovka
"We're building our dream home in Bakovka, near Lokomotiv's training facility," Inga says. "I love the privacy and fresh air of having our own space. Sergei deserves peace and quiet after the intensity of the pitch."
Future Plans
"Once we finish the house, we might consider having another child," Inga hints. "For now, we're focused on creating a sanctuary for our family."
