Biography of Ingrid Rosen

Ingrid von Rosen, also known as Ingrid Bergman, was a Swedish actress and the wife of renowned Swedish director Ingmar Bergman. She was born as Ingrid Karlebo on January 17, 1930, in Stockholm, Sweden.

In 1953, she married Swedish count Jan-Carl von Rosen, but their marriage ended in 1971. Later that same year, Ingrid entered into a marriage with director Ingmar Bergman. They were together for 24 years until Ingrid's death on May 20, 1995, in Stockholm, at the age of 65, after battling cancer.

In 1972, Ingrid starred in the melodrama film "Cries and Whispers" (Viskningar och rop), which was directed by Ingmar. She also appeared in another film by her husband, the television comedy "The Magic Flute" (Trollflöjten) in 1975, alongside Josef Köstlinger.

Ingrid's personal diary was included in the biographical work "Three Diaries" (Tre dagböcker), which was published in 2004. The biography was written by Ingmar and their daughter, Maria von Rosen. In the book's preface, Bergman writes that he met Ingrid von Rosen in 1957, and their paths occasionally crossed until 1969. During this time, the Swedish director went through two marriages - with Gun Grut and Käbi Laretei - and had a romance with actress Liv Ullmann. Maria von Rosen was born in 1959. In the same year, Bergman divorced Grut and married Laretei. The biography reveals that Maria was unaware of her father's identity as Bergman until the age of 22. By the time of his marriage to Ingrid, the prolific director had been divorced four times and had eight children, including a daughter with Liv Ullmann.

Ingmar Bergman passed away peacefully in his sleep on July 30, 2007, at his home on the island of Fårö, Sweden, at the age of 89. Although he rests on Fårö, his name and date of birth were already inscribed under his wife's name on her grave at the Roslagsbro cemetery several years before his death.
