Early Life and Education

Ingrid Šimonytė was born on November 15, 1974, in Vilnius, Lithuania. She graduated from Vilnius University with a bachelor's degree in business administration from the Faculty of Economics. She later obtained an MBA from the Stockholm School of Economics.

Career in Finance

From 1997 to 2001, Šimonytė worked in the tax department of the Lithuanian Ministry of Finance. She served as Secretary of State for the Ministry of Finance from 2004 to 2009. In 2013, she was appointed Deputy Chairwoman of the Board of the Bank of Lithuania.

Academic and Political Ambitions

Concurrently with her official duties, Šimonytė taught economics at the Institute of International Relations and Political Science, as well as public finance at ISM University of Management and Economics. She resigned from her position on October 31, 2016, following her election to the Seimas (Lithuanian parliament) as a representative of the Antakalnis electoral district in Vilnius.

In 2018, Šimonytė emerged victorious with 78.71% of the vote in the primary election to determine the candidate for the Homeland Union - Lithuanian Christian Democrats party in the 2019 Lithuanian presidential election. She defeated her rival, diplomat Vygaudas Ušackas.

Appointment as Prime Minister

Following the Homeland Union - Christian Democrats party's victory in the October 2020 parliamentary elections, President Gitanas Nausėda appointed Ingrid Šimonytė as Prime Minister of Lithuania on November 25, 2020.

Personal Life

Ingrid Šimonytė is not married and has no children. She is fluent in Lithuanian, English, Russian, and Polish.
