Iosif Mikhailovich Gerasimov was a renowned Soviet writer, journalist, playwright, and screenwriter. Born in a family of Polish immigrants, he received his early education in Yiddish in Minsk and later attended a Russian school in Sverdlovsk.

Wartime Service and Journalism Career

During World War II, Gerasimov served in the Red Army and suffered a concussion. After graduating from the Faculty of Journalism at Ural University in Sverdlovsk in 1949, he and his wife, journalist Kapitolina Vasilievna Kozhвниkova, were sent to Chisinau to work for the newspaper "Sovetskaya Moldova."

Literary and Cinematic Contributions

Gerasimov joined the Union of Soviet Writers in 1956. His works, including the novel "Predel vozmozhnogo" and the short story "Stuk v dver," were translated into multiple languages. His novel "Radosti zemnye" was adapted into a feature film in 1988. He also wrote screenplays for films such as "Pyat dney otdykha," "Ulitsa bez kontsa," and "Stuk v dver."

Recognition and Legacy

Gerasimov received the Order of the Red Star, Order of the Patriotic War II degree, Order of Friendship of Peoples, and medals. His work continues to be recognized for its literary and cinematic excellence.

Final Years and Legacy

Gerasimov passed away in Moscow on March 31, 1991, and was buried in the Vostryakovskoye Cemetery. His contributions to Soviet literature and cinema left a lasting impact on the cultural landscape of the time.
