Early Life and Revolutionary Activities

Kim Il-sung was born into a peasant family. During his time as a middle school student in Jilin City, he joined an underground youth organization called the Communist Youth League. In 1929, he was arrested and imprisoned. Following his release in 1930, he worked as the secretary of the Jilin underground district committee of the Communist Youth League. In 1931, he joined the Communist Party and in 1932, he organized the first Korean partisan unit, which later developed into the Korean People's Revolutionary Army (KPRA). Under Kim Il-sung's command, the KPRA engaged in combat against the Japanese invaders in Northeast China and the northern regions of Korea.

Establishment of the Society for the Rebirth of the Fatherland

In 1936, at Kim Il-sung's initiative, the Society for the Rebirth of the Fatherland (Choguk Kwanbohwe) was established. The activities of this society played a crucial role in the formation of a united anti-Japanese front. After the liberation of Korea by the Soviet Army, Kim Il-sung continued his party activities and was elected as the first secretary of the North Korean Organizing Bureau of the Korean Communist Party in 1945. In 1946, the Korean Communist Party merged with the New People's Party to form the Workers' Party of North Korea. Kim Il-sung served as the president of the Temporary People's Committee of North Korea and from 1946 to 1949, he was the president of the Central Committee of the United Democratic National Front of North Korea. From 1949, following the merger of the Workers' Party of North and South Korea into a unified party, he became the chairman, and in October 1966, he was appointed as the General Secretary of the Central Committee of the Workers' Party of Korea. From 1949 onwards, he was a member of the Presidium of the Central Committee of the United Democratic Fatherland Front of Korea.
