Early Life and Education

Irakli Kobakhidze was born in Tbilisi, Georgia. His father, Giorgi Kobakhidze, was a physicist and a member of the Georgian Parliament from 1992 to 1999. Kobakhidze graduated from Tbilisi State University with a degree in Law in 2000 and obtained a PhD from the National Academy of Sciences of Georgia's Institute of State and Law in 2002. He then received a Doctor of Laws degree from the University of Düsseldorf in 2006.

Academic Career

Kobakhidze lectured at Georgian universities and served as a project manager for the United Nations Development Program. He participated as an expert in the Council of Europe's strategic activities in Georgia and was a member of Open Society Foundation's Committee of Experts for Human Rights and Programs.

Political Career

Chairman of Parliament (2016-2019)

Kobakhidze joined the Georgian Dream party in January 2015 and became its executive secretary. Following his party's victory in the 2016 parliamentary elections, he was elected Chairman of the Parliament of Georgia on November 18, 2016. His election was criticized by the opposition United National Movement as further exacerbating societal divisions.

After a failed visit to Baku, Kobakhidze resigned from his post as Chairman of the Parliament on June 21, 2019, amid anti-Russian protests in Tbilisi.

Chairman of Georgian Dream (2021-Present)

In early 2021, after Bidzina Ivanishvili's departure from politics, Kobakhidze became the Chairman of the Georgian Dream - Democratic Georgia party.

Prime Minister (2024-Present)

In February 2024, Kobakhidze became the Prime Minister of Georgia.
Personal Life
Kobakhidze is married to Natalia Motsonelidze and has two sons.
