Biography of Irena Karpa
Irena Karpa is a Ukrainian writer, singer, and journalist. She was born on December 8, 1980, in Cherkasy. She initially lived with her family in Ivano-Frankivsk and later relocated with them to Yaremche, a small town in the Carpathian Mountains. She attended an art school there. In 1998, she enrolled in the Kyiv National Linguistic University, specializing in French philology.

Karpa became the lead singer and lyricist of the music group "Faktichno sami" in 1999, which later changed its name to "Qarpa" in 2007. Their music is a fusion of industrial, punk rock, hardcore, and psychedelic trip-hop. She also had her work published in the renowned magazine "Chetverh."
Her first book, "Znes Palenoho" (Demolition of the Burned), was published in 2000 in Ivano-Frankivsk. After completing her education, Karpa earned a master's degree in foreign philology, specializing in English and French languages. She then embarked on a year-long journey through Southeast Asia, which inspired her novel "Froid bi plakav" (Freud Would Cry), published by "Folio."
In 2005, Karpa began working as a television host on channels such as "ICTV," "Inter," "MTV-Ukraine," and "TRK Ukraine." She released her fourth book, another novel titled "Perlamutrove Porno" (Pearlescent Porn), in 2005, published by "Dulibi." Her fifth book, "Bitches Get Everything," was published by "Klub Semeynogo Dosuga."
In 2006, Karpa tried her hand at acting in the films "Autism" directed by O. Anpilogov and "Compote" directed by A. Yakushenkov. She also directed a short film titled "Kyiv. Limited Edition." Additionally, she posed for erotic photoshoots for magazines like Playboy, Penthouse, and FHM.
On May 17, 2008, Karpa married journalist and writer Anton Fridland. In September 2008, she released a new book, "Doblo i Zlo" (Good and Evil). However, she divorced Fridland in the summer of 2009. Later that same year, Karpa married American financier Norman Paul Hansen in a ceremony held in San Francisco.
In 1999, Karpa received the Grand Prix at the international competition for young writers called "Granoslov." In 2006, she was awarded the "Best Ukrainian Awards-2006" in the category of "most fashionable writer."
