Daughter of Demetrios I

Daughter of Demetrios I, despot of Morea, son of Matthew, emperor of Byzantium, and grandson of John VI, emperor of Byzantium.

Marriage to George I Branković

On December 26, 1414, she married George I Branković, despot of Serbia (c. 1375 - 1456). According to Serbian chronicles, she was known for her miserliness and greed.

Fall of Smederevo

In 1438, she sold off all the food supplies in the city of Smederevo, which hastened its capture by Sultan Murad II. Two of her sons, Gregory and Stephen, were taken prisoner, while George Branković fled to Hungary and, with the help of Hunyadi, expelled the Turks from his territory in 1443.

Death and Legacy

She died as a nun, possibly poisoned by her younger son, Lazar (d. 1458).
