Early Life and Education

Irina Feodorovna Vlach was born on February 26, 1974, in Comrat, Moldovan SSR. Her parents were ethnic Gagauz and Bulgarian.

From 1991 to 1996, she studied at Comrat State University's Faculty of Law. She then pursued a doctorate at the Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Moldova from 2001 to 2008. In 2008, she successfully defended her dissertation on "Contemporary Concept of Public Service Development in the Republic of Moldova." Vlach has also authored several scholarly publications on public administration, interethnic harmony in Moldova, and the protection of Russian-speaking populations.

Professional Career

Vlach began her professional career in 1996 as a lawyer for the Tax Inspectorate of ATU Gagauzia. From 2003 to 2005, she served as Head of the Legal Department of the Executive Committee of ATU Gagauzia.

Political Career

Vlach's political career commenced in 2005 when she was elected to the Parliament of the Republic of Moldova. She served as a member of the Committee on Law, Appointments, and Immunities from 2005 to 2015.

Throughout her time in Parliament, Vlach played an active role in various commissions and committees. From 2010 to 2014, she was a member of the Standing Bureau of the Parliament of the Republic of Moldova. In 2014, she became a member of the Committee on Human Rights and Interethnic Relations.

Baшкан of ATU Gagauzia

In 2015, Vlach was elected Baшкан (Head) of ATU Gagauzia. She won the election with 51.11% of the votes in the first round, breaking gender barriers and becoming the first woman to hold the position.

As Baшкан, Vlach has worked to strengthen the region's economy, improve infrastructure, and promote interethnic harmony. She has also been an advocate for the rights of the Russian-speaking population in Moldova.

Advocacy and Honors

Vlach is an ardent supporter of integration within the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS). In 2008, she received an honorary diploma from the Interparliamentary Assembly of the CIS for her efforts in strengthening intergovernmental ties.

In 2018, she was awarded the Jubilee Medal "In Commemoration of the 100th Anniversary of the Restoration of Patriarchate in the Russian Orthodox Church."

Recent Developments

In 2021, Vlach was removed from the Supreme Security Council of Moldova. This decision has been met with criticism from various quarters, raising concerns about possible separatist sentiments in the autonomous region.
