Early Life
Born in Chernihiv, Ukraine, Irina Morozova inherited her athleticism from her father, a former amateur footballer, and her persistence from her mother, a machine operator. Despite attempts to direct her toward artistic gymnastics, Irina's passion for football was undeniable. At age six, she donned goalkeeper gloves for the first time.
Youth Football
At nine, Irina defied gender norms by enrolling in a football club as its only female student. Determined to pursue her dream, she moved to Donetsk at age ten, spending two years at a sports boarding school. There, she trained under Lev Anatolyevich Trukhan and held the goalkeeper position from the start.
Career Beginnings
Returning to Chernihiv at age 12, Irina played for the "Legenda" team, eventually earning a spot as a goalkeeper on the main squad at 18. Her debut for the Ukrainian national team followed soon after. In 2002, she briefly played for "Gümrücü" in Azerbaijan.
Career Shift
At 20, Irina made a surprising move to Russian side "Energiya" Voronezh, where she shifted from goalkeeper to right defender. Despite reservations, she excelled in her new role, earning recognition as the league's top right defender. In a memorable UEFA Champions League match in 2004, she scored three goals.
Russia and France
Following Energiya's dissolution, Irina joined Russian powerhouse "Rossiyanka," where she found her footing as a goalkeeper. From 2007 to 2012, she led the team to four Russian league titles and five cup victories. In 2013, she signed a short-term contract with French club "Juvisy."
National Team
Irina has been a member of the Ukrainian national team since 2000. Her major tournament debut came in the 2009 European Championship in Finland.
Personal Life
Irina remains unmarried and is currently focused on her football career. She is dedicated to language learning and is in the process of mastering French.
