Biograpy of Irwin Jacobs

Irwin Jacobs was born on October 18, 1933, in New Bedford, Massachusetts. He is now one of the prominent engineers specializing in electronics and the chairman of the company "Qualcomm".

He received his higher education in 1956 at Cornell University, where he studied electrical engineering and everything related to it. In 1957, he enrolled at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, which he successfully completed. Irwin Jacobs is a member of the fraternity "Sigma Alpha Mu".

Early Career

Jacobs began his career in 1959 when he started working as a laboratory assistant at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. In 1966, he decided to move to a higher position and was offered a place at the University of California. He worked there until 1972.

Jacobs is the author of several books. He co-authored the textbook "Principles of Communication Engineering", which was published in 1965 and is still used by students today. In 1968, Irwin Jacobs founded the company "Linkabit" together with Andrew Viterbi. The company started developing satellite equipment. In 1980, "Linkabit" merged with "M/COM", forming a new enterprise called "M/COM-Linkabit". Currently, "M/COM-Linkabit" holds leading positions in the satellite equipment market.
