Early Life and Military Career
Education and CommissionIrza-bek Hajibeyli, an Azerbaijani military figure, was born into nobility in the city of Yerevan. He entered service as a cadet in the Elizavetgrad Cavalry Cadet School. Upon graduating on April 27, 1898, he was promoted to the rank of cornet and assigned to the 21st Dragoon Regiment of His Imperial Highness Grand Duke Mikhail Mikhailovich.
Promotions and World War I
Over the next decade, Hajibeyli rose through the ranks, earning promotions to поручик (second lieutenant) in 1902, штабс-ротмистр (staff captain) in 1905, and ротмистр (captain) in 1912. During World War I, he actively participated in combat, sustaining a wound on October 23, 1914, and two concussions on March 12 and August 31, 1915. He was promoted to подполковник (lieutenant colonel) on July 20, 1916.
Service in the Azerbaijani Army
Independence and FormationAfter the collapse of the Russian Empire in 1918, Hajibeyli joined the newly established Muslim Corps (later the separate Azerbaijani Corps) of the Azerbaijan Democratic Republic (ADR). He was promoted to полковник (colonel) and commanded the Karayaz Cavalry Regiment in the autumn of 1918. Later, he became the commander of the 1st Tatar Cavalry Regiment in November.
Staff and Operational Roles
In September 1919, Hajibeyli was appointed chief of staff of the Baku Fortified Region. In March 1920, he was selected as the head of the Operational and Reconnaissance Department of the Army Staff. Additionally, he served as the chief of the military department of the interdepartmental commission responsible for accepting assets from the interned units of the Volunteer Army.
