Early Life and Career
Isaach de Bankolé was born in Abidjan, Côte d'Ivoire, to parents of Beninese descent. He immigrated to France and studied to become a civilian pilot in Paris before pursuing a career in acting. From 2001 onwards, he has resided in New York City.
Film Career
Bankolé has starred in over thirty films, including Lars von Trier's "Manderlay," four of Jim Jarmusch's films ("Night on Earth," "Ghost Dog: The Way of the Samurai," "Coffee and Cigarettes," and the lead role in "The Limits of Control"), and "Casino Royale" (2006), in which he portrayed terrorist Steven Obanno.
Awards and Recognition
In 1987, Bankolé was awarded the César Award for Most Promising Actor.
Personal Life
From 2000 to 2003, Bankolé was married to American jazz singer Cassandra Wilson.
