Isabelle Aubret is a French pop singer and the winner of the 1962 Eurovision Song Contest. Born in 1938, she began her career as a gymnast and became the champion of France in 1958. However, she soon turned her focus to music and started performing as a soloist in various groups in the late 1950s. She also worked in a Parisian cabaret.
Rise to Fame
In 1962, Aubret started performing in concert programs alongside Jean Ferrat and Jacques Brel. That same year, she participated in the Eurovision Song Contest and won with her song "Un Premier Amour." She made history as the first French artist to win the competition. In 1964, Aubret was offered the lead role in the film "The Umbrellas of Cherbourg," but due to a serious car accident, she had to decline the offer.
Continued Success
Aubret attempted to represent France again at Eurovision in 1961 but came in second place in the national selection. However, her second attempt in 1962 proved to be more successful, and she emerged as the winner of the Eurovision Song Contest. She went on to represent France once again in 1968, where she placed third with her song "La Source."
In addition to her Eurovision journey, Aubret participated in the French selection rounds for the competition in 1970, 1976, and 1983, placing second, sixth, and ninth, respectively.
International Recognition
