Issam Jemaa: Tunisian Footballer

Early Career

Issam Jemaa began his footballing journey with his hometown club in Tunisia. He later joined the youth team of Espérance Sportive de Tunis, where he demonstrated his exceptional speed and attacking prowess on the left flank. Within a year, he made his debut for the senior team.

French League Adventure

In 2005, Jemaa's talents caught the attention of Roger Lemerre, then coach of the Tunisian national team. Following impressive performances, he attracted interest from several European clubs, including Tottenham Hotspur. Eventually, he signed with RC Lens in France for a fee of £960,000.

Loan to Caen and Return to Lens

During the 2005/06 season, Jemaa struggled to establish himself in Lens' starting lineup, predominantly making substitute appearances. However, he showcased his goal-scoring abilities with strikes against Halmstads (Sweden) and Sampdoria (Italy) in the UEFA Cup. After another brief stint with Lens in 2006/07, he was sent on loan to Caen, which had returned to the French top division. With Caen, he helped the team avoid relegation.

Returning to Lens in 2008, Jemaa played a pivotal role in their Ligue 2 victory in the 2008/09 season, contributing with five goals in 26 appearances. He was named Player of the Month for April.

Foundation of Starting Role

In 2009/10, Jemaa became a regular starter for Lens. He helped the club reach the semi-finals of the Coupe de France, scoring twice in the round of 16 against eventual champions Marseille. He also featured regularly in the league, scoring seven goals.

Departure from Lens and Transfer to Auxerre

Following Lens' relegation in the 2010/11 season, Jemaa moved to Auxerre for a fee of €2 million in July 2011. He made his debut for the club in August as a substitute.

International Career

Jemaa earned his first international cap for Tunisia in 2005 against Botswana. He participated in the 2005 FIFA Confederations Cup, where he made an appearance in the final group match against Australia and helped secure a 2-0 victory. Jemaa represented Tunisia at three Africa Cup of Nations tournaments (2006, 2008, and 2010), with the team reaching the quarter-finals in 2006 and 2008.
