Ivane Javakhishvili
Ivane Javakhishvili, a Georgian historian and academician of the USSR Academy of Sciences, was born in Tiflis on April 23, 1876.
Education and Academic Career
Javakhishvili graduated from the Faculty of Oriental Languages at St. Petersburg University in 1899. In 1902, he became an assistant professor at St. Petersburg University's Department of Armenian-Georgian Philology.
In 1918, Javakhishvili became a professor and dean of the Faculty of Philology at the University of Tbilisi. He served as the university's rector from 1919 to 1926.
Political and Social Influences
Javakhishvili's social and political views were influenced by the democratic movement in Russia. In 1905, he wrote "Political and Social Movement in Georgia in the 19th Century," published in 1906.
Historical Research
Javakhishvili's primary research focused on the ancient and medieval history of Georgia. His major works include:

In 1937, Javakhishvili became the director of the Shota Rustaveli Museum. He also conducted research on the general problems of the ethnogenesis of the peoples of the Caucasus, particularly in his 1937 work "Introduction to the History of the Georgian People."
Ivane Javakhishvili passed away in Tbilisi on November 18, 1940. His contributions to Georgian history and scholarship continue to be highly valued.
