Ivan Dodig: Croatian Tennis Prodigy
Early Life and CareerIvan Dodig was born on January 2, 1985, in Međugorje, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Yugoslavia. He began playing tennis at the age of eight, relatively late by today's standards. Dodig has two brothers, Zeljko and Mladen, and speaks Croatian and English.
Professional Tennis Career
Dodig turned professional in 2004 and has achieved notable success in both singles and doubles. In singles, he reached a career-high ranking of 33 in 2011 and won his first ATP Tour title at the 2011 Zagreb Indoors. He has also won two ATP Challenger Tour titles and three ITF Futures titles.
Grand Slam Performances
In the Grand Slams, Dodig has made a mark in the past two years. He qualified for the main draw of the 2010 Australian Open, where he famously defeated former world number one Juan Carlos Ferrero in the first round. He also reached the second round at Wimbledon and the US Open that year.
In 2011, Dodig made history by winning a set against world number one Novak Djokovic at the Australian Open, despite ultimately losing the match 5-7, 7-6, 0-6, 2-6.
