Early Life and Club Career
Ivan Hašek, a Czech footballer and coach, was born into a renowned sporting family. He excelled as a central midfielder, winning five Czechoslovak championships and three Czechoslovak Cups during his professional career spanning 21 years. Hašek played for illustrious clubs such as Sparta Prague, Strasbourg, Sanfrecce Hiroshima, and JEF United Ichihara Chiba. Notably, he was named Czech Footballer of the Year twice, in 1987 and 1988.
International Career
Hašek made significant contributions to the Czechoslovak national team, earning 55 caps and scoring five goals. He captained the team during the 1990 FIFA World Cup, where they reached the quarter-finals.
Coaching Career
Upon retiring as a player in 1999, Hašek transitioned to coaching. He managed his former clubs, Sparta Prague and Strasbourg, as well as Vissel Kobe, Al Wasl, Saint-Étienne, and Al-Ahli. In 2007, he served briefly as head coach of the Czech national team. From July to October 2009, he held this position before resigning due to the team's failure to qualify for the 2010 FIFA World Cup. Currently, Hašek serves as the president of the Football Association of the Czech Republic.
Personal Life
Ivan Hašek is related to two other prominent athletes: his cousin Martin Hašek, a professional footballer who played for Sparta Prague alongside Ivan, and his cousin Dominik Hašek, a legendary ice hockey goaltender. Hašek is also the father of two sons, Ivan and Pavel, who have both pursued professional football careers.
