Keylor Navas: The Costa Rican Goalkeeper with a Stellar Career
Early Life and Club CareerKeylor Navas, a Costa Rican goalkeeper, is currently a member of Real Madrid and the Costa Rican national team. He began his football journey at Saprissa's academy. In 2005, he made his professional debut for Saprissa in the Costa Rican Primera División. Over the following two seasons, he became the team's starting goalkeeper and helped them win six league titles, a CONCACAF Champions League trophy, and a third-place finish in the Club World Cup.
Move to Europe
In 2010, Navas joined Spanish club Albacete, becoming only the second Costa Rican goalkeeper ever to play for the team. He later moved to Levante on loan, where he made his La Liga debut in 2012. Levante eventually acquired his full transfer. In the 2013/14 season, he established himself as Levante's first-choice goalkeeper.
Arrival at Real Madrid
In 2014, Navas made the move to Real Madrid for a transfer fee of €10 million. He debuted for the club against Elche. Following the departure of veteran goalkeeper Iker Casillas in 2015, Navas became Real Madrid's starting goalkeeper. He played a pivotal role in Real Madrid's triumphs in the 2016 Champions League, Club World Cup, and UEFA Super Cup. He also won the Spanish La Liga title in 2017 and his second consecutive Champions League title.
International Career
Navas made his international debut for Costa Rica in 2008. In 2009, he was part of the team that participated in the CONCACAF Gold Cup, where he was named the tournament's best goalkeeper. He took part in the Gold Cup again in 2011.
FIFA World Cup 2014
Navas' performance in the 2014 FIFA World Cup in Brazil was exceptional. He played in all five of Costa Rica's matches and was recognized as the Man of the Match in three of them. His contributions were instrumental in the team's historic quarter-final run.
