Ivan Kulets: A Master of Ukrainian Landscape Painting
Ivan Kulets, a renowned Ukrainian landscape artist, received his early education in the schools of Horodok, Zhuravno, and Lviv. From 1904 to 1909, he pursued his passion for art at the Kraków Academy of Fine Arts, where he studied under the tutelage of esteemed professors such as Józef Unierzyski, Wojciech Weiss, Jan Stanisławski, and Julian Pankiewicz.
The Crucible of War
In 1914, Kulets relocated to Prague. The outbreak of World War I saw him enlisted in the Austro-Hungarian army as a military artist. After serving his duty, he received devastating news that his family home had been destroyed and his father had succumbed to hardship, while his mother had passed away prior to the war. These events prompted Kulets to settle permanently in Prague.
A Legacy in Paint
Throughout his artistic career, Kulets' primary focus was on landscape painting. His works captured the essence of the natural world, showcasing his meticulous attention to detail and vibrant use of color. His passion for Cubism also influenced his style, imbuing his landscapes with a unique geometric and abstract quality.
