Early Life and Education

Ivan Vladimirovich Kupin was born on March 28, 1914, in the village of Timonovo, Luhansk Oblast, to a peasant family. He completed nine grades of school in Taganrog and worked as the head of the organization department of the Taganrog City Committee of the Komsomol.

Military Career

Kupin joined the Red Army in 1933. In 1937, he graduated from the Tbilisi Artillery School and in 1941, he completed two courses at the Military Artillery Academy.

During World War II, Kupin commanded the 32nd Anti-Tank Artillery Brigade of the 40th Army on the Ukrainian Front. He played a crucial role in the crossing of the Dnieper River and the battles on the Bukrinsky Bridgehead in October-November 1943. His brigade repelled numerous enemy counterattacks and prevented attempts to surround 17th Rifle Corps units.

Hero of the Soviet Union

For his courage and heroism in battle, Kupin was awarded the title of Hero of the Soviet Union on July 1, 1944. He also received the Order of Lenin and a "Gold Star" medal.

Post-War Career and Retirement

After the war, Kupin continued serving in the army. In 1964, he graduated from the Higher Academic Courses at the Military Artillery Academy. He retired in 1967 with the rank of Major General.

Later Life and Death

Kupin settled in Moscow in 1977 and was awarded the Order of Zhukov by Presidential Decree No. 212 on February 19, 1996. He passed away on September 16, 1998, and was buried in the Rakitki cemetery in the Moscow region.
