Birth and Education
Dr. Igor Sergeyevich Seryakov was born on August 23, 1946, in Yazichkovo village, Dribinsky district, Mogilev region. He graduated from Pankratovskaya secondary school in the Gorky district in 1965. In 1966, he enrolled in the Zootechnical Faculty of the Belarusian Agricultural Academy, which he completed in January 1971.
Early Career
From February 1971 to October 1973, Seryakov worked as chief zootechnician at the Chkalov breeding farm in the Gorky district. From October 1973 to September 1988, he held positions as a research assistant and later as head of the premixtures department at the experimental station of the Belarusian Agricultural Academy. In January 1982, he defended his Ph.D. dissertation on the "Experimental justification of the combined use of vitamins U and B12 in the diet of young pigs."
Academic Career
In June 1982, Seryakov was awarded the degree of Candidate of Agricultural Sciences, and in September 1985, he received the academic title of senior research assistant. In June 1988, he was elected by competition to the position of associate professor in the Department of Physiology, Biotechnology, and Veterinary Medicine. In July 1991, he was awarded the academic title of associate professor. In December 1993, he was elected by competition as head of the Department of Zoohygiene, Ecology, and Microbiology.
In December 1997, Seryakov defended his doctoral dissertation on "Theoretical and practical aspects of the use of vitamins U, B12, and coenzyme B12 in pig diets." In March 1998, he was awarded the degree of Doctor of Agricultural Sciences, and in October 1999, he was given the academic title of professor.
From December 1998, Seryakov worked as a professor in the Department of Zoohygiene, Ecology, and Microbiology, and from July 1, 2005, as head of the Department of Pig Breeding and Small Livestock. Since August 2017, he has been the head of the Department of Feeding and Breeding of Agricultural Animals.
Honors and Awards
Seryakov was elected a corresponding member of the International Academy of Agrarian Education and the International Academy of Veterinary Sciences in 2000. In 2003, he became an academician of the Academy of Agricultural and Forestry Sciences of Latvia. In 2002, he was awarded the President of the Republic of Belarus Fellowship for outstanding achievements in professional activities.
He has received numerous awards and honors, including the Honored Charter of the Ministry of Agriculture and Food of the Republic of Belarus, the Honored Charter of the Higher Attestation Commission of the Republic of Belarus, the Mogilev Regional Agro-Industrial Committee, diplomas from the Gorky District Executive Committee, the Belarusian State Agricultural Academy, and a Letter of Gratitude from the Minister of Agriculture and Food of the Republic of Belarus. Since 1996, he has been an Excellent Worker of Education of the Republic of Belarus.
Research and Publications
Seryakov is a leading scientist in the field of vitamin and mineral nutrition of agricultural animals and poultry in Belarus. He was the first scientist in the CIS to conduct extensive scientific and production tests of vitamin supplements such as vitamin U and coenzyme B12. Currently, his research focuses on the comprehensive use of new-generation vitamins in the diets of various production groups of cattle.
Seryakov has created a scientific school on the theoretical and practical aspects of using new-generation vitamins in animal husbandry, which maintains close contacts with the A.N. Bakh Institute of Biochemistry (Russia), the Mordovian State University (Russia), the Ukrainian National Agrarian University, and the Institute of Biology of the Academy of Sciences of Latvia. He has supervised 9 candidates of agricultural sciences and 5 masters of agricultural sciences.
Seryakov has published 295 scientific works, including 23 textbooks and teaching aids. He is a member of the Expert Council of the Higher Attestation Commission of the Republic of Belarus.
