Early Life and Education
Born in 1844 in the Podolian Governorate to a noble family of Polish descent, he descended from the Polish gentry. His early education took place at the Zlatopol Noble District School, followed by Prince A.A. Bezborodko's Lyceum. He then pursued higher education at the Imperial Novorossiysk University, graduating with a degree in physics and mathematics.
Career at the Russian Steam Navigation and Trading Company
He entered the service of the Russian Steam Navigation and Trading Company (ROPiT), establishing residence in Odessa. In 1888, he was entrusted with the management of the company's mines in the town of Aleksandrovsk-Grushevsky.
Stewardship of ROPiT Mines (1888-1908)
For two decades, from 1888 to 1908, he oversaw the operations of ROPiT's mines in Aleksandrovsk-Grushevsky. During his tenure, he held the rank of captain of the second rank in the Russian navy and assumed the role of custodian at the elementary school established by the company.
Personal Life
He married and fathered several children: Alexander Ivanovich Stepankovsky (1877-1958), Ivan Ivanovich Stepankovsky (1889-?), Sergei Ivanovich Stepankovsky (1879-1945), Natalia Ivanovna Stepankovskaya, and two others whose names remain unknown.
Recognition and Legacy
In recognition of his service, he was awarded the Order of Saint Anna, third degree. His contributions to the mining industry and his support for education left a lasting impact on the community of Aleksandrovsk-Grushevsky.
