Professional CareerIvailо Yordanov began his professional football journey at Rilski Sportist Samokov. In 1989, he joined Lokomotiv Gorna Oryahovitsa, where he excelled and became the league's top scorer in 1991.
Sporting Lisbon Era
Despite Lokomotiv's underdog status, Yordanov's brilliance caught the attention of Portuguese giants Sporting Lisbon. He signed for the club in 1991 and over ten seasons made 183 appearances, scoring 53 goals. During his tenure in Lisbon, he claimed a Portuguese league title and two domestic cups. In 1997, he was crowned Bulgarian Footballer of the Year.
International Career
Yordanov debuted for the Bulgarian national team in 1991. He participated in the FIFA World Cups in 1994 and 1998, and the UEFA European Championship in 1996, showcasing his talents on the international stage. Despite the presence of legendary strikers like Hristo Stoichkov, he earned 50 caps for Bulgaria, scoring three goals.
Coaching and Managerial Roles
After retiring as a player, Yordanov transitioned into coaching, serving as an assistant coach at Sporting Lisbon for three years. In 2004, he joined the Bulgarian national team as an assistant to Hristo Stoichkov, a role he held until 2007. He subsequently became a scout for Litex Lovech in 2010.
