Jack Grunsky: Canadian Singer-Songwriter with a Global Reach

Humble Beginnings

Born in Austria on July 1, 1945, Jack Grunsky immigrated to Canada as a child. His musical journey began in high school in Toronto, but after graduating, he returned to Europe where his career took flight.

Early Success in Europe

In 1966, Grunsky gained his first break with the folk group 'Jack's Angels,' signed to Amadeo Records in Vienna. Following the band's dissolution, he recorded three solo albums on the same label, one of which was produced by renowned British rock musician Alexis Korner. The album 'Toronto' was recorded in London featuring future guitar legend Mick Taylor.

From Germany to Canada

Grunsky's Austrian success caught the attention of German progressive label Kuckuck Records in Munich where he released three more albums of original material. He became a regular guest on radio and television shows, even hosting a half-hour radio program called 'Folk With Jack' on Austrian state broadcaster ORF.

In 1974, Grunsky returned to Canada, where he collaborated with music producer Chad Irschick, releasing an independent album titled 'The Patience Of A Sailor.'

Children's Music Pioneer

In the early 1980s, Jack became passionate about creating music for children. He has since become renowned for his endearing children's songs, releasing 11 award-winning children's music releases. His accolades include two Juno Awards for 'Best Children's Release,' multiple U.S. Parents' Choice Gold Awards, and numerous listings on top children's music charts.

International Renown

Grunsky's music has reached audiences worldwide through extensive touring at theaters, family concerts, international children's festivals, and Early Childhood Educational conferences. His multiple appearances on the children's channel Treehouse TV boosted his popularity both in Canada and the United States.

Educational Outreach

Beyond his children's songs, Grunsky has performed his grand-scale 'Welcome to the Orchestra' show for young audiences accompanied by major Canadian symphony orchestras.

Recent Productions

Grunsky released his debut instrumental album 'Coastlines' in the style of nu-jazz in 2006. 'Room To Move' followed in May 2008. To this day, he continues to work in both jazz and children's music, with a recent children's album 'Cathcy Tune' released in 2008.

Musical Legacy

Jack Grunsky's daughter Cosima has followed in her father's footsteps, becoming a singer-songwriter and frequent collaborator. She has released three independent albums to date.
