Jack Vettriano, whose real name is Jack Hoggan, was born in 1951 in Methil, Fife, a region in Scotland. He spent his childhood and youth on the coast of the North Sea and studied in Kirkcaldy. At the age of 16, he left school and started working in a coal mine. It was not until he turned 21 that he developed an interest in art when his girlfriend gave him a set of watercolor paints as a birthday gift.

Vettriano began painting as a hobby and soon started copying famous masterpieces found in the local museum. Despite never receiving any formal art education, he gained recognition in 1988 when two of his paintings were sold on the first day of an exhibition at the Royal Scottish Academy. This success led him to move to Edinburgh and change his surname to Vettriano.

Over the following years, Vettriano became an increasingly sought-after artist, with his exhibitions being held in cities such as London, Hong Kong, Johannesburg, and New York. His paintings depict luxurious women and elegant men, capturing a retro atmosphere filled with passion and adventure.

Aside from his artistic achievements, Vettriano is known for his philanthropy. In 2001, he donated his painting "Beautiful Dreamer" to an auction, with the proceeds going to a hospice. In 2008, he repeated this act of generosity with his painting "Olympia."

While critics debate Vettriano's place in the art world, his paintings continue to be purchased by notable individuals such as Jack Nicholson, Robbie Coltrane, Madonna, and Sir Alex Ferguson.
