Early Life and EducationJacqueline "Jackie" Burroughs, a Canadian actress, was born in Lancashire, England, in 1939. Her family later relocated to Toronto, where she attended Branksome Hall and the University of Toronto.
Acting Debut and Early Career
Jackie's acting debut occurred in 1966 with roles in films such as "The Purse" and "Notes for a Film About Donna & Gail" and the television series "Wojeck." Throughout the 1970s, she continued to appear in television shows like "The Psychiatrist," "Norman Corwin Presents," and "Great Performances."
Voiceover Work and Notable Roles
In addition to her on-camera work, Jackie also enjoyed a prolific career as a voice actress, lending her voice to animated features such as "Heavy Metal" (1982), "The Care Bears Movie" (1985), and "How Dinosaurs Learned to Fly." In 1982, she landed a lead role in the Canadian Western "The Grey Fox," earning a Genie Award for her performance.
Jackie's most recognized roles include Mrs. Amelia Evans in the television series "Anne of Green Gables" and Hetty King in "Avonlea," for which she won a Gemini Award. Her portrayal of Hetty King cemented her status as a beloved Canadian actress.

Jackie Burroughs received eight Gemini Award nominations, winning four. Her performance in "A Winter Tan" (1987) earned her a Genie Award for Best Actress. In addition to her acting accomplishments, Jackie also wrote the screenplay for the film.
Later Career and Death
Jackie continued to act until her final on-screen role in the thriller "Small Town Murder Songs" (2010). She passed away from stomach cancer on September 22, 2010, in Toronto.
Personal Life
Jackie Burroughs was married to actor and musician Zal Yanovsky from 1960 to 1968. They had one daughter, Zoe.
