Education and Early Career
Belgian economist, Professor Jean-François Thisse holds a PhD from the University of Liège. From 1975 to 1992, he taught at the Catholic University of Louvain.
Academic Appointments
In 1989, Thisse became a professor at the Université Paris I - Sorbonne. In 1992, he joined the French National School of Bridges and Roads as a research director. In 1996, he returned to the Catholic University of Louvain to become a full professor at the Center for Operations Research and Econometrics (CORE). From 2000 to 2006, he served as CORE's president. Since 2001, he has been a professor at the French National School of Bridges and Roads.
International Collaborations
As a visiting professor, Thisse has collaborated with renowned universities worldwide, including the University of Louis Pasteur in Strasbourg, Sorbonne, INSEAD, University of Pennsylvania, Virginia Tech, Tel Aviv University, and Kyoto University.
Contributions to the Field
A founding member of the European Economic Association, Thisse has contributed extensively to the field. He has served on the association's Board of Directors and as editor of prestigious academic journals, including the Journal of the European Economic Association and the International Journal of Economic Theory.
Leadership in Spatial Economics
In 2011, Thisse established the Laboratory of Market Theory and Spatial Economics at the National Research University Higher School of Economics in Russia. This laboratory continues his research in spatial economics and market theory.
