Blinko's lifelong fear of dentists proved to be well-founded when, a few years ago, a seemingly straightforward operation to remove two wisdom teeth resulted in a gruesome injury. The dentist's overheating drill burned through Blinko's lip, leaving her severely disfigured. For Blinko, who had dreams of pursuing a career in fashion, this was a devastating blow.

Living with Trauma

The past three years have been a living hell for the Bilston, West Midlands resident. Once a confident and attractive woman, Blinko has had to come to terms with the significant facial scarring that has left her appearance altered. She jokes that while she always feared dentists, she never imagined it would materialize in her worst nightmare.

The Fateful Procedure

The fateful procedure took place on September 1, 2011. The dentist explained the procedure, had Blinko sign a consent form, and administered general anesthesia as per the agreed plan. However, Blinko woke up from the anesthesia in excruciating pain. Instead of an explanation, she was given a double dose of morphine, which sent her back to sleep.

Unbearable Reality

Upon waking again, Blinko received the shocking news that the burns she had sustained during the surgery would result in a permanent scar. The realization hit hard. Blinko, a model who had always been proud of her appearance, now felt like a monster. Although plastic surgery was recommended, it was made clear that it was unlikely to fully erase the damage.

Devastating Impact

The impact of the incident extended far beyond Blinko's modeling career. Having previously worked in a nursery, Blinko found it impossible to return after her surgery. Her scarred appearance frightened the children, and the emotional toll forced her to give up her beloved job.

Hospital's Apology and Compensation

The hospital has accepted full responsibility for the incident and Blinko is expected to receive compensation for the harm she has suffered. The lead surgeon apologized in person and in writing to Blinko and her family, and the hospital has reported taking measures to replace the equipment involved.

A Life Changed

While apologies and financial compensation cannot undo what has been done, it is unlikely to ever fully alleviate the impact on Blinko's life.
