Early Life and Musical Beginnings

Bahtiyar Mamedov, known by his stage name Jah Khalib, was born on September 29, 1993, in Almaty, Kazakhstan. His father is Azerbaijani and his mother is Kazakh, belonging to the Naiman tribe. From a young age, Khalib developed a passion for rap music. He trained as a saxophonist at a music school and later enrolled in the musicology and management faculty of the Kurmangazy Kazakh National Conservatory.

Career as a Producer and Solo Debut

As a beatmaker and sound producer, Khalib collaborated with numerous Kazakhstani rappers, including Introvert, PR'OXY, Santos, Antrax, and Hiroshima. Embarking on a solo career, he adopted the stage name Jah Khalib ("Jah" referring to the Rastafarian name for God).

Rise to Prominence

Khalib gained widespread recognition through social media, where his tracks were widely shared. Notable early releases included "Tvoi Sonnye Glaza," "SnD," "Szhigaya Dotla," and "Ty Dlya Menya." His popularity extended beyond Kazakhstan into other post-Soviet countries.

Breakthrough Album and Recognition

In 2016, Khalib released his debut full-length album, "Yesli Che, Ya Bakha." The following year, he released the music video for "Leyla" and won the "Breakthrough of the Year" award at the Muz-TV Awards 2017. In 2018, he received his first "Golden Gramophone" award for the song "Medina."

"Vyhod v Svet" Album

In 2019, Khalib relocated to Kyiv, Ukraine, where he worked on his album "Vyhod v Svet." Released in October 2019, the album featured collaborations with Kyivstoner, Oleg Gruz, COSMOS Girls, Jamala, MARUV, and others. Incorporating live musicians, the album showcased a more diverse and original sound compared to his previous release, "E.G.O." Khalib's lyrics explored themes of love, relationships, his own status in rap, and more personal experiences, such as his relationship with his mother and brother.
