Jair Bolsonaro: The 38th President of Brazil
Early Life and Military CareerJair Bolsonaro was born on March 21, 1955, in Glicerio, São Paulo, Brazil. His family has primarily Italian ancestry with some German roots. Bolsonaro attended the Army Preparatory Cadet School and graduated from the prestigious Agulhas Negras Military Academy in 1977. He served as an army paratrooper and artilleryman during the military regime and pursued a career in politics after its downfall.
Political Career
Bolsonaro was first elected to the Rio de Janeiro City Council in 1988 and has since served seven terms as a federal deputy. He has been a member of several political parties, including the Christian Democratic Party, the Progressive Party, and the Social Liberal Party. In 2018, he ran for president under the slogan "Brazil Above Everything, and God Above Everyone."
Presidential Election and Administration
Bolsonaro became the first candidate in the 2018 race to raise over 1 million reais in donations. Despite initial predictions of his defeat in the runoff against Fernando Haddad of the Workers' Party, Bolsonaro emerged victorious with 55.13% of the vote.

COVID-19 Pandemic
During the COVID-19 pandemic, Bolsonaro downplayed the severity of the virus and resisted lockdown measures. He tested positive for COVID-19 in July 2020 but later announced that he had recovered. Bolsonaro has also been a vocal opponent of mandatory vaccination and the use of masks.
Personal Life
Bolsonaro has been married three times and has five children. He is a devout evangelical Christian and was baptized in the Jordan River in 2016.
Awards and Recognition
Bolsonaro has received the Order of Aeronautical Merit and the Order of Naval Merit from Brazil. In 2020, he was awarded the Ig Nobel Prize in Medicine "for using the COVID-19 pandemic to teach the world that politicians have a more immediate impact on life and death than scientists and doctors."
