Jake Roberts, born on May 30, 1955, is an American professional wrestler and the son of former wrestler Aurelian "Grizzly" Smith. Growing up in a family of wrestlers, Roberts followed in his father's footsteps and developed a passion for the sport from a young age.

Roberts began his wrestling career in 1974, showcasing his immense potential in competitions such as Mid-South Wrestling and Georgia Championship Wrestling. In 1984, he joined the World Class Championship Wrestling (WCCW) and competed under their banner for a year before returning to Mid-South Wrestling.

One of Roberts' first major matches took place in the mid-1980s against Ricky "The Dragon" Steamboat, which became a significant event on national television. Roberts praised Steamboat as a great wrestler and a strong-willed individual. Throughout the 1980s, Roberts gained fame for his impressive victories, earning him a large fan base.

In the early 1990s, Roberts actively participated in wrestling competitions at various levels. When he competed in the World Championship Wrestling (WCW) World Cup of Wrestling, his father, "Grizzly" Smith, proudly supported him.
