James Tarkowski: From Oldham to Burnley
Early Life and CareerJames Tarkowski, an English footballer, was born in Manchester and grew up in New Moston. A Manchester United fan since childhood, his football idols were David Beckham and Paul Scholes. In May 2009, he signed a two-year amateur contract with Oldham Athletic and began playing for their first team in 2011.
Oldham Athletic Debut and First Goal
Tarkowski made his professional debut for Oldham on January 22, 2011, against Brentford. In May 2011, he signed his first professional contract. His first goal for the club came against Carlisle United on May 5, 2012.
Establishing Himself at Oldham
During the 2012/13 season, Tarkowski established himself as a regular central defender for Oldham, scoring goals against Crewe Alexandra and Stevenage. In June 2013, he signed a new two-year contract with the club.
Transfer to Brentford
However, Tarkowski's time at Oldham was short-lived. In January 2014, he joined Brentford on a three-and-a-half-year deal. He made his debut for the Bees against Carlisle United and scored his first goal against Tranmere Rovers in March.
Move to Burnley
Tarkowski's impressive performances for Brentford earned him a move to Burnley, then in the Championship, in February 2016. He made his debut for the Clarets against Rotherham United.
Premier League Debut
Tarkowski made his Premier League debut in August 2016, coming on as a substitute against Chelsea. Following Michael Keane's departure from Burnley in 2017, Tarkowski formed a strong partnership with Ben Mee in central defense, inheriting the number 5 shirt previously worn by Keane.
