Early Life and Education
James Turley was born in the United States in 1954. He earned a Master's degree in Accounting from Rice University in Houston, Texas, in 1977.
Career at Ernst & Young
1977-1997Turley joined Ernst & Young in 1977 as an auditor in Houston. In 1979, he relocated to St. Louis. Rising through the ranks, Turley became a partner in 1987. He held various leadership positions within Ernst & Young US, including Director of Client Services and Business Development, Coordinating Partner for Services to Major Clients, Area Managing Partner for the Entrepreneurial Services Group, and Managing Partner of the North Central Region.
1998-2003
In 1998, Turley became Managing Partner of the Greater New York Area. He was elected Vice Chairman in July 2000, Chairman of the Americas in July 2001, and Global CEO of Ernst & Young in 2003.
