Josef Kittel was a Czech composer born in the town of Úvaly. He received his musical education in Prague, studying under Václav Tomášek while simultaneously pursuing legal studies.

Government Service and Retirement

Kittel initially worked in government service for a time. However, in 1840, he resigned his position to devote himself fully to music.

Operatic Works

One of Kittel's significant contributions was his composition of several operas. Notable among these is "Bianca und Giuseppe oder Die Franzosen vor Nizza" (1848), based on a libretto by Richard Wagner.

Other Compositions

Beyond his operas, Kittel was also a prolific composer of other works. He created a Requiem (1829), songs, chamber music, and symphonic music. His "Hunting Symphony" became one of his most famous compositions.
