Early Life and Education
John Beyzym was born on May 15, 1850, in the village of Beyzymy, Volhynia. From 1864 to 1871, he attended a gymnasium in Kiev. After graduating, he moved to Brzozów, where he entered the Jesuit order on December 10, 1872. He studied philosophy and theology in Kraków from 1874 to 1882.
Priesthood and Jesuit Life
On July 26, 1881, John Beyzym was ordained a priest by Bishop Albin Dunajewski of Kraków. He resided in the Jesuit community in Ternopil until 1887. On February 2, 1886, he made his final vows as a Jesuit.
Work in Ukraine
In the fall of 1886, John Beyzym arrived in Chyrów, near Lviv, where he spent the next decade teaching and educating local youth.
Mission to Madagascar
In 1896, he was sent on a mission to Madagascar, where he ministered to the poor and needy. He dedicated his life to pastoral work, providing spiritual guidance and support to the local population.
Death and Legacy
John Beyzym passed away on October 2, 1912, in Madagascar. He was beatified by Pope John Paul II on August 18, 2002, during his visit to Kraków. His feast day in the Catholic Church is October 12.
