Biography of Jan Boetcher

Jan Boetcher was a German writer and novelist born in 1973 in Lüneburg, Lower Saxony. He studied German and Scandinavian literature and began publishing in anthologies and magazines in 1996. In 2006, he released his first novel, "Geld oder Leben" (Money or Life).

A Multi-Talented Artist

Aside from being a writer, Jan Boetcher is also a musician. He founded the band "Herr Nilsson" and recently released his first solo album. Boetcher is one of the creators of the "KOÖK" label and is actively involved in organizing literary and musical events. Currently, he resides and works in Berlin.

Awards and Recognition

Throughout his career, Jan Boetcher has received several prestigious awards and scholarships. In 2006, he was awarded a scholarship from the German Literary Fund to work on his novel. The following year, he won the Ernst Willner Prize during the Ingeborg Bachmann Competition in Klagenfurt. In 2008, Boetcher received a scholarship named after Homines Urbani in Krakow, Poland, and another one from the German Literary Fund in London.

The Novel "Nachglühen"

In his novel "Nachglühen," Boetcher tells a story about the recent history of Germany. It revolves around the theme of reunification, which is not only significant for Germany but also highly relevant in 2009, as it marks the 20th anniversary of this event. The narrative follows the lives of two young men, Jens Levin, a journalist, and Jo Brüggemann, a police officer, who return to their village after the fall of the Berlin Wall. However, their paths diverge as they become entangled in a secret that the villagers refuse to talk about. When Jens' wife, Anna, begins to inquire about the past, old wounds are reopened.
